Medicare at 65 across Utah
The rules are federal. The employers, the Social Security offices, and the free counselors are local. We serve the whole state by phone and video; these pages cover the places most of our readers live.

Free local help that is not a sales call
Utah SHIP
The Senior Health Insurance Information Program: trained counselors who compare plans and explain enrollment at no cost. Statewide 1-800-541-7735; each county’s Area Agency on Aging runs the local line (listed on the town pages). Medigap rate comparison: medigap.utah.gov.
Social Security
Handles Medicare enrollment. Online at ssa.gov/medicare, by phone at 1-800-772-1213, or at one of Utah’s five field offices: South Salt Lake, South Jordan, Provo, Ogden, and St. George.
Medicare
1-800-MEDICARE and medicare.gov’s plan finder, which lists every Medigap, Advantage, and Part D plan in your county.
Three Utah rules that are not on the federal pages
The Medigap birthday rule (new in 2025)
Each year, for 60 days starting on your birthday, your Medigap insurer must let you switch to a comparable or lower-tier plan it offers, with no medical underwriting. Same insurer only. Utah Code 31A-22-620(3)(g), effective May 7, 2025.
The PEHP Medicare Supplement
Anyone who ever had URS or PEHP benefits (or whose spouse did) can buy it at 65. Requires Parts A and B; Plan 100 is $154.17 a month at 65 in 2026. State employees convert unused sick leave into months of it.
BYU and Church employers (DMBA)
The opposite of “delay Part B on employer coverage”: DMBA requires enrollment in Parts A and B at 65 plus its Deseret Alliance supplement, and the employer contribution ends at 65.
